That being said, we know Spike isn't completely closed off to women, as seen in the movie when he flirts with Elektra and even asks her out on a date. So to me, by the end of the series, what Spike wanted was closure from his past, and it wasn't about Julia anymore. Spike didn't want to leave the Bebop, he wanted to stay and fight with them. Not to mention the fact that Jet had to force him to leave the Bebop and go find closure.
Then when she begs him to run away with her and he doesn't. When they finally reunited in the last two episodes, in the cemetery where she hugs him, he has this cold, distant look in his eyes and doesn't return her hug or anything. People say he was in love with Julia to the very end, but I beg to differ. Spike could not love another woman until he closed up shop with Julia and Vicious.
